Best Albums of 2012 (CÄ)

Even though it has been quite a hectic year in my own music factory, recording and releasing several albums myself, I’ve at least managed to stay updated to a certain degree, picking up a few gems along the way:

Top 10 Albums of 2012 (in no particular order)

Änglagård - Viljans Öga

Änglagård – “Viljans Öga” [Progress Records, 2012]

One of my all-time favorite bands! Enough said!

Iamamiwhoami - Kin

Iamamiwhoami – “Kin” [To Whom It May Concern, 2012]

Eccentric electronic music at its very best! Songs like “Play”, “Sever” and “Kill” are mesmerizingly great!

Spawn of Possession - Incurso

Spawn of Possession – “Incurso” [Relapse Records, 2012]

This band never ceases to amaze me and now, with my good old, talented friend Henrik Schönström behind the drums, they’ve managed to take their
delicate chaos to an even higher level of technicality. Absolutely brilliant stuff!

Abominable Putridity - The Anomalies Of Artificial Origin

Abominable Putridity – “The Anomalies Of Artificial Origin” [Brutal Bands, 2012]

The award for this year’s most outstanding slam/death metal performance, goes to Russia. Perfected brutality!

Devin Townsend Project - Epicloud

Devin Townsend Project– “Epicloud” [HevyDevy/InsideOut Music, 2012]

The sticker on the album-cover pretty much sums it up: “It’s epic. It’s loud. It’s epicloud!”.

Witchcraft - Legend

Witchcraft – “Legend” [Nuclear Blast, 2012]

Like the perfect mix between “Sleep” and “Black Sabbath”. A phenomenal album in general and a killer doom metal/stoner rock album in particular!

AtomA - Skylight

AtomA – “Skylight” [Napalm Records, 2012]

The flawless debut album from a band I’m now proud to be able calling myself a member of.

Avatar - Black Waltz

Avatar – “Black Waltz” [Gain Records, 2012]

Unpredictably great, in all respects. I’m really looking forward to hearing more from these fellas in the future!

Deftones - Koi No Yokan

Deftones – “Koi No Yokan” [Warner Bros, 2012]

Talk about having a sound in their own right. A truly unique metal band, once again delivering the goods.

Johan Randén - Summary

Johan Randén – “Summary” [Reingold Records, 2012]

Jazz-fusion of the very best quality, from a musical genius I have the pleasure and privilege of calling my good friend! The song “Eclipse” is
nothing short of an avant-garde masterpiece.

Challengers falling on the goal-line:

Gojira – “L’enfant Sauvage”
Aeon – “Aeons Black”
ZZ Top – “La Futura”
Shining – “Redefining Darkness”
