Wow. This sounds… French.

Voltumna is an Italian outfit, within the (kind of) symphonic black/death realm, that has been around since 2009. I don’t know what their aim was with this release, but the result is not grand.

After releasing one EP in 2011, the band saw it fit to release an album this year. Like said EP this full-length is self-released and that really says it all. “Damnatio Sacrorum” is not a professional creation. It reeks of amateur tacos (in this text, “taco” is a negative word).

None of the vocal styles are convincing, the guitar sound is pretty far from good and the band fail at creating that atmosphere they were looking for. Partly because of the production, but also due to the fact that the songs themselves are taco. They do even have mallcore breakdowns thrown in there! I’m sorry, I cannot think of anything positive to say about this album. Taco.

Damn, I’m getting hungry writing this.

Note from the author: The French/Italian thing in the beginning was not a typo.
