Ensnared – “Ravenous Damnation’s Death” EP 2013

Ensnared – “Ravenous Damnation’s Death” EP
LABEL: Nuclear Winter Records
YEAR: 2013
GENRE: Death Metal
RATING: 8.5 / 10

Wow, I really didn’t think Ensnared would come from Gothenburg, but that is what it says on Metal Archives, so it must be true. But I was even more surprised by the actual music. Having only seen the cover of this EP and their band name, my mind was locked into thinking I would be hearing some NWOOSSDM. Is that how you write it? New Wave Of Old-School Swedish Death Metal? You know what I mean.

What these salty Swedes (because the west coast of Sweden is the only salty ocean that surrounds the same country) deliver is something different than that anyway. The only old-school comparison I can make is Merciless. I have only heard their debut, but that is on the thrashy side of the death metal spectrum. Ensnared are too, but a lot blastier, and also not without a nice taste of black metal.

The production is raw and uncompromising and darn if this EP couldn’t be the stepping stone to something totally amazing. I know that I need to get my hands on a physical copy of “Ravenous Damnation’s Death” and blast it with the few friends I have that listen to death metal (i.e. “true friends”).
