ALBUM: Deicide – “In the Minds of Evil”
LABEL: Century Media
GENRE: Death Metal
RATING: 8.0 / 10
Deicide to me is as classic as all the Scandinavian death metal stuff by bands such as Entombed, Grave, Dismember, Unleashed, Hypocrisy, At the Gates, Leukemia and so on. Looking back to the early 90’s I consider myself to be a very lucky teen, not only did the death metal scene have its golden era. The second wave of black metal started to rise around this time.
I still remember what the room, where I first heard the album “Deicide”, looked like. In fact this was the teen room of an individual that would later on play a part in the Scandinavian metalscene, perhaps not in the way one thinks but nevertheless. But, enough of this nostalgia bullshit!
“In the Minds of Evil” is in fact the first Deicide album I truly enjoy since 1995’s “Once Upon the Cross”. Ok, I’ve enjoyed random tracks such as “Blame it on God”, “Bible Basher”, “In Torment in Hell”, “Homage to Satan” and so on from the albums so far. But as far as the music and especially Glens voice on the latest offerings have been far from what I grew up with.
This is why I am pleased with “In the Minds of Evil”. Glen sounds awesome and so does the music. I have no idea whether the new guitarist Kevin Quirion has anything to do with this or not, but nevertheless “In the Minds of Evil” sound more Deicide in my ears than it has done for the past 18 years and I fucking like it!!!!
