ALBUM: Hate – “Crusade:Zero”
LABEL: Napalm Records
GENRE: Death Metal
RATING: 8.5 / 10
Hate has always put out strong releases, and is in my eyes a very underrated band. Maybe due to the unfortunate production of their earlier albums, maybe because they always had to work in shadow of titans Behemoth and Vader. Hopefully by following up 2013’s well-produced “Solarflesh” with yet an even more well produced and well written album they will get the attention they so deserve.
The music on “Crusade:Zero” takes of where “Solarflesh” left us. Dark and grinding death metal that does not hesitate to use elements of black metal. The biggest difference on the new album is the evident flirtation with heavy metal. Dual guitar leads, and almost galloping drum parts. But in no way does this take away from the brutality of the songs. The production has never been this organic, and it just adds on to the massiveness of the album. This is how their previous albums should have been produced.
Overall just a really strong album, perhaps one of 2015’s top 10 already!
